Dental work can seem a little scary at times. Many of our patients come to us from negative dental experiences or physical difficulties (i.e. gag reflexes) that make it hard to relax during essential dental work.
Dr. Alatorre understands these concerns and wants to go above and beyond to help our patients feel good about their dental visits. In this light, we offer sedation dentistry techniques to help our office reach a higher level of service.
Here are our two main services in sedation dentistry. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help make your experience with us better!
Do You Struggle With Dental Anxiety?
Many people get scared of going to the dentist. You may have had a bad experience before or heard scary stories from others, or you may feel that the dentist’s office is a strange and unsettling place.
Whatever the cause of your anxious feelings, our team at Alatorre Dental will do everything we can to make you feel comfortable and have a more positive relationship with dental care. Sedation dentistry is one way we can help both your body and mind relax while we give you the oral healthcare you need.
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas is a popular and common option for oral sedation. It is administered via a mask placed over your nose and will keep you sedated throughout the length of your procedure. Gas levels are monitored by our staff, ensuring that your dental experience is safe and serene.
How Long Does The Laughing Gas Last?
The effects of laughing gas don’t last longer than a few minutes once the mask is taken off your mouth. After you are cleared by your dentist, you are good to go about your day! If you are feeling the effects for longer, you are welcome to wait in our comfortable office until you are safe to drive home or until someone can pick you up.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is not administered in-office, but rather at home in the form of a pill. Simply take the pill before coming into your appointment and you can feel at ease while we do the rest. Dr. Alatorre will prescribe you your oral sedation pill based on your medical history and specific needs.
How Long Do the Pills Last?
Oral sedative pills can last about two to eight hours, depending on which one you take. Dr. Alatorre will walk you through the effects during the initial appointment.
Dental Sedation Tips From Alatorre Dental
We want to make sure you have the best experience possible here at Alatorre Dental! Here are some tips we give our patients to set them up for success:
Find a Designated Driver
As with any procedure involving sedation (except laughing gas), please make sure someone is available to drive you to and from your appointment. The medication’s effects can last up to 8 hours and can interfere with driving and making important decisions.
Do Not Self-Medicate
In addition, please do not self-medicate when it comes to oral sedation. Dr. Alatorre will have access to all your medical information and will be able to most accurately tell whether a pill is safe for you to use or not. Please do not use additional medication other than what Dr. Alatorre prescribes for the day of your appointment.
Take Things Easy
Consider planning out time to take things a little easy after the appointment. Taking the day off from work and school can help you focus on your health and help the medication run its course in your system.
Explore Our Website
We want to make sure you know as much as possible before you get started on our treatment. To help accomplish this, we have included a page for each of the services we offer. Clear the fear of the unknown by checking out the Services menu and learning more about the treatment you need.
Is Sedation Dentistry Okay With Kids?
Kids are totally able to use sedation dentistry as well! Using sedative techniques has been very useful in helping kids handle special needs, growing emotions, and dental nerves.
We are happy to create an environment that is great for kids’ dental health to thrive. Feel free to ask Dr. Alatorre if you have any more questions or requests to help your child feel great.
Don’t Let Anxiety Get In The Way Of Your Health
While dentist appointments may be scary to some, dental care is incredibly important when it comes to your total health. Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way for you to stay healthy, while also feeling calm and comfortable. Our team will make you feel calm and comfortable in our office.
